The seals were chosen by the sphragistics expert Dr. Edmundas Rimša and the Head of the Manuscript Department of the Library of the Academy of Sciences Rima Cicėnienė. Analysed were the Great Seal of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Small Seal of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the seals of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania Žygimantas Kęstutaitis and Kazimieras, of the Bishop of Vilnius Albertas Taboras, of the noble Jonas Skinderis, of the city of Kaunas. The methods of atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS) were used to determine the heavy metals in the seals. The elemental composition of the seals and of their shells was analysed by the method of scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS). In addition, organic structure units in the matter of the seals and their shells were specified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The analysis was performed in the Environmental Research Department of the Environment Protection Agency under the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania.Objektas Lietuvoje suradusi namus: [apie Inesą Drozdovą].(2009) Pacepavičiūtė, AlvyraObjektas Laikraštis „Vilniaus rytojus“ (1928–1937): leidimo istorija ir sklaida(2009) Grybienė, AidaThe article addresses the publication of the newspaper „Vilniaus rytojus" during the time of the Polish occupation. Research of library objects can be effective only when it is comprehensive and constandy supervised. Monitoring allows to systematically supervise library work, to analyze library procedures and operations, to be alert to their changes, to predict their development and to forestall any negative tendencies. Library monitoring differs from the usual library research. Monitoring is both a standard evaluation of objects and situations and a flow of information which is processed by a standard set of indicators. Starting 1990, the Department of Scientific Organization of Main Stock has been implementing a yearly monitoring of the composition and the usage of the collection of Belarusian and foreign periodicals and serials. The article discusses the methods of monitoring and the achieved results.Objektas Germanistė, redaktorė, knygotyrininkė: [apie Onutę Bliūdžiūtę](2009) Saudargas, PovilasObjektas Filosofas, bibliofilas, bibliografas: [apie Ipolitą Ledą](2009) Saudargas, PovilasObjektas Nesvyžiaus ordinacijos kunigaikščių Radvilų bibliotekos asmeninės knygų kolekcijos ypatybės: iš Baltarusijos nacionalinės mokslų akademijos Centrinės mokslinės J. Turinys(2009)Objektas Renesanso knyga Vidurio ir Vakarų Lietuvoje: sklaidos keliai ir senosios bibliotekos(2009) Lūžys, SigitasThe article discusses the dissemination of the printed word in the provinces of Samogitia and Central Lithuania in the XVI century. It explores how city residents, landed gentry and clergy of Central and Western Lithuania started their acquaintance with the book. The article also addresses possible ways of obtaining books, bibliophilic nature of private book collections, the migration of personal book collections to the growing libraries of educational centres. Most attention is accorded to the XV–XVI centuries‘ books with ownership-testifying inscriptions, which are kept in libraries of the present-day Kaunas. Some interesting copies of such books have marginals written by famous upholders of Lithuanian culture. The author concludes that 1) the spread of books in Central and Western Lithuania was predetermined by the establishment of the new religion – Christianity; 2) the European orientation of the new nobility encouraged the need of higher education, which was instrumental for the appearance of the personal collections amassed either for the purposes of study or post-study; 3) the expansion of literacy among the lower classes made the book important as both an educational aid and a possession; 4) the spread of books in the provinces demonstrated a more active integration of the provinces of Lithuania into social and political life of the state.Objektas Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštijos Statutas baltarusių ir užsienio lingvistų tyrinėjimuose: bibliografinė apžvalga(2009) Smirnova, IrinaThe staff of the Department of Information and Analytical Maintenance of Scientific and Research Work (the former Science Bibliography Department) in the Jakub Kolas Central Science Library of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus have been compiling the bibliography of Belarusian linguistics since 1952. The article presents an overview of the work done for the preservation and popularization of the written heritage in the Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences during the past five years and considers the issue of connection between the preservation and dispersion of the heritage. The preservation of the written heritage is implemented by the Documents Conservation and Restoration Department, closely collaborating with the Departments of Manuscripts, Rare Books and Old Periodicals. Information technologies specialists frequently provide assistance. The preservation of the documents is ascertained by their restoration and conservation accompanied by a scientific analysis. Another important way to preserve and disseminate the documents is to digitalize them. Traditional methods of publicizing the heritage: creation of electronic catalogue, compilation of printed bibliographic publications, publication of the documents, mounting exhibitions - are also not forgotten.Objektas Lietuvos jėzuitų provincijos egzaminų registracijos knyga: struktūra ir reikšmė(2009) Katilienė, IrenaThe article discusses the structure of the manuscript examination register of the Lithuanian Jesuit College (the end of the XVI century and the first part of the XVII century). This important piece of the scientific heritage of the Old Vilnius University is currently being prepared for publication. In the department, there are more than two hundred extremely rare monuments of literature (in Lithuanian, Latin, Polish, Germanic languages) of diverse origin. The rarity of the documents is ascertained using various bibliographical sources. Among the latters, especially helpful are summary catalogues listing known remaining copies of unique publications both in Lithuanian and foreign libraries. The department also has in its holdings a unique collection of cuneiform tablets reaching as far back as the XXII century B.C., which was deposited in the Vrublevskiai library by the collector Pranciškus Tičkovskis (Franciszek Tyczkowski) in the third decade of the XX century.Objektas Asmeninės Vilniaus akademinės bendruomenės narių knygos rinkinyje „Bibliotheca Academiae Vilnensis“: jų tyrimo ir išlikimo galimybės skaitmeniniame amžiuje(2009) Krakytė, AstaThe article presents an overview of personal books of the members of the Vilnius academic community of the XVIII century - the beginning of the XIX century (up to the date Lithuania was annexed by the Czarist Russia and Vilnius University was closed), belonging to the collection „Bibliotheca Academiae Vilnensis" of the Rare Book Department of the Vilnius University Library. The article is boosted by the ideas of W. Zanders about the role of special collections in the context of the library history of Latvia, by the research of the Polish scientist L. Kowkiel concerning personal libraries of the XIX century in the area of Grodno (in Belarus) and by some significant initiatives of the Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. The aim of the article is to define the subject by illuminating a range of problems related to the study and to the survival of the historical collection „Bibliotheca Academiae Vilnensis" - a remarkable piece of the European culture heritage.
