dc.description.abstract The article briefly surveys the history of ink and dyestuff which were used and are being used up till now in the manuscripts. The oldest and the most resistant ink (Tas it was proved with time) to the influence of time and environment was produced using soot of various origin. Later the ink has been made on the basis of gallic acid. The synthetic dyes were started to be used at the end of 19th century. They satisfied the requirements of consumers in obtaining ink of various colours but preserving, using and restoring the documents with such sort of ink, the problems appeared with conservation. The tests were carried out with three samples of contemporary ink in order to fix and preserve these samples by various means. lt
