Abstract:
Vladas Drėma (*1910–†1995) is one of the greatest historians of Lithuanian art, talented artist and educationalist. A prominent researcher and preserver of cultural heritage, he left a lasting mark on the history of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. From 1988 to 1990, he worked in the Manuscript Department of the Library, where he systematized and described unique art pieces held by the department. Owing to his efforts to make available the „Collection of Drawings and Sketches by Lithuanian Artists“ (F320) to scientific community, it is now one of the most studied collections of the Manuscript Department. The article presents some of the lesser known and little researched Drėma’s manuscripts, kept in the Juozas Girdvainis Collection (F221). These include a biographical data form filled in by Drėma in 1955, an autobiography with supplementary notes, and a typed copy of a testimony about the first soviet occupation and Polish- Lithuanian relations in the Vilnius region in 1940–1941, written in July 1941 and discovered on September 21th, 1944 in the Archive of the Office of Studies in Vilnius.
