Duomenų bazės „Lituanistika“ raida, reikšmė ir perspektyvos

Abstract

The Lituanistika database is an original, widely used, and highly regarded repository of research in the humanities and social sciences related to Lithuania. It is a subject-specific database that includes only scholarly publications and works dedicated to the dissemination of scholarly knowledge. Lituanistika stands out from other databases through the consistency of its structure and the deliberate linking of works with the studies that reference, comment on, or otherwise engage with them. It is the only database in Lithuania that offers such a large volume of open-access documents. Currently, records with open-access full-text documents account for 68.2 % of the database’s total content. This presentation highlights various features of the database that demonstrate the unquestionable significance of Lituanistika. Drawing on these characteristics, as well as positive evaluations from both Lithuanian and international experts, it is recommended that Lituanistika continue to receive state support for its ongoing maintenance and development. Since 2006, when the database was first established, the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences has been responsible for its upkeep and expansion. The expertise accumulated in the library over this period makes it possible to outline several directions for the future growth of Lituanistika, which are also discussed in this presentation.
