The article focuses on the creation of the model for the structure of standardization activity and social communication aspects of standardization activity in the information and documentation area. The activity theory as a practical philosophy and a research method allows determining the subjects, objects, processes, methods and results of standardization activity. Applying systematic structural approach to the activity enables us to investigate standardization as a field of purposeful and complex human activity as well as to identify the structure of this activity, the interaction of its elements and the impact of each of these elements on the integration and communication process of memory institutions. A model for standardization activity is proposed on the basis of the investigation of the standardization activity structure as a potential expression of interaction between memory institutions. Due to a diversity of standardization subjects and objects, as well as of models applied for standardization activity, the formation of a background for cross-sectoral interaction between memory institutions depends on changes within any of the six elements comprising the structure of standardization activity. Standardized integration provides possibilities for joining standardization activities and merging knowledge, skills and other human and material resources into the whole without losing the subjects’ self-sufficiency.
